Shooting For Star

Photography Jobs - Shooting For StarI never thought my hobby will take me to this level. When I started with photography a few years ago, most of my works, aside from portraits of people and pets, are landscapes and seascapes. They weren’t that complicated I would say because most of them concerns mainly of the whole picture. With sceneries, what I try to capture is the atmosphere, for me, it’s all that defines a picture. With portraits, I would say that a combination and balance between atmosphere and the subject are two [if not all] of the main factor that I needed to consider. But taking photography job for fashion taught my eyes to look at a very different perspective.

It took a lot of patience and perseverance on my part to receive my first commendation from my mentor. But still, there is something I feel I needed to discover, something to find out.

If you think that shooting for a fashion is much the same with shooting wedding portraits and the like, you’re wrong. I must say that photo session with somebody’s pet dog is a lot easier! With fashion, you must consider your model and their clothing –details and colors. Nevertheless, there is something beyond those fancy poses and flashing smiles that I must capture; I need to capture something that speaks; perhaps a strong statement that coveys the art, not of photography but of fashion.

Shooting Animals

Photography Jobs - Shooting AnimalsIf you are often asked by most of your clients to shoot their pets or farm animals, it is most probable that you would always thank heavens for the invention of digital cameras and photo editing software.

As all photographers know, photo-shooting for pets and other animals is not as easy as how these animals are seen in the pictures. Very often, we see photos where these animals look relaxed, as if the photos were taken so easily. They appear quite deceiving in pictures as if we’re just looking at them naturally or the shot was taken casually. Well, as a photographer, I know that it is not.

It wasn’t long before I got my first photography job for a client who breeds and sells purebred dogs. Looking at some of the photos that my client wants me to come up with, I thought it was an easy job and won’t take more than an hour. But I was wrong -it was like a dog day for me. Only then I realized that unless I sit, stay, crawl, and rollover, I will never get good pictures that will meet the demands my client. I literally did all those things to capture the most ideal pictures that I can get, and I did! But I also got furs all over my pants and shirt.

So, I hope this may serve as a precaution to those who have never had worked with animals yet – Beware of dogs!

Can you imagine yourself living in the old centuries when photography wasn’t invented yet? Well, if you live at that time and you happen to be a very good artist, you’d probably make a lot of money by making portraits and commercial ads. Can you imagine how many paintings you would have to mass produce? You’d be painting exact copies of the same picture again and again. That’s a lot of money – and a lot of hard work too! But that is only IF you are an artist!

Fortunately for most of us who were not gifted with such talent, things became a lot easier since the invention of photography. The advancement of modern technology made it possible for everyone –even kids—to take advantage of what cameras nowadays can offer. Mobile phones nowadays have built-in cameras which none of us have ever imagined 20 years ago, and it’s not uncommon to see kids in elementary school playing with digital cameras, or taking pictures with mobile phones.

File sharing through computers and internet also made it easier to share photos with others. Many may have overlooked it, but this gives anyone who has a knack for shooting picture a great opportunity to earn money by selling photographs or accepting photography jobs. With the help of image-editing software such as Adobe Photoshop, and a little bit of art sense, any person who owns even an average camera can produce images that he can sell online. Now, do you picture yourself turning your hobby into a promising career?

People Who Need People

As a photographer who frequently travels, I’d say that the most interesting part of all my travels is meeting different kinds of people. Of course I appreciate the sights, sounds, foods, and even the peculiar smell of every place I’ve been to but nothing has ever made each of my travels worth remembering than being warmly welcomed by the local people and meeting other tourists as well. Although I do not remember all of their names, I’m always reminded of something special about each of the people I have encountered every time I look at their photos from my portrait collection. Their beauty never ceases to inspire me; not because I took the pictures myself, but sincerely, I admire each of my subject’s characteristic beauty.

My collection of portraits consists mostly of children and elders in various settings. Putting these two contrasting characters together in a composition always fascinates me. The paradox between naivety and wisdom, of wonder and calmness, when put together creates a harmonious beauty that seems to set a bridge that connects the age gap between two people. It also symbolizes a breaking of a wall that separates two souls.

Aside from elders and children, Couples are one of the most sellable compositions among my collections. Believe me, you can find such theme anywhere. From greeting cards, calendars, magazines, and books, couples never cease to inspire people regardless of age. I believe it’s our innate desire to stay connected with others that makes such composition appealing to all of us.
