Perhaps, you have your fashion niche portfolio ready now and ready for submission to the one of the popular fashion magazine. You can create as many as you like and submit them to many fashion photography jobs listed in the Photography Jobs Dot Net.

The common mistake most of the fashion photography applicants do when submitting their portfolios is their lack of research. This is what most photo editors claimed that they always encountered such mistake. You should know the name of the photo editors of the fashion magazines you will submit your work or portfolio when applying for the fashion photographer position.

You need to research on the background of the magazine you are applying to before submitting your work. Some magazines cater fashion on shoe industry, some are clothes, and some will be on make ups or everything from feet to head, from health to fitness. You have to create and show the specific niche portfolio the fashion photo editor will be interested to and not to selling them. The biggest mistake most applicants do is they submit wrong portfolios to the photo editors and the worst, all the hard work of hiring designers and makeup artists were gone to waste. To narrow down this mistake, never submit a shoe portfolio niche to a clothes fashion magazine.

Here are some few reminders before submitting your work:

  • When ready, call the publisher ahead of the time and get the name of the photo editor to whom your portfolio should be addressed to.
  • Personalize your work with your name, phone number and website address.
  • Never send the originals instead send your transparencies or the working prints.
  • If you want your portfolio back, include a self-addressed-stamped-envelope.
