The Staff Photographer is a visual storyteller for Catholic Review Media. The staff photographer will use a creative, fresh and discerning eye to produce and display dynamic photographs, video and multi-media projects, shared across multiple platforms that support the mission of Catholic Review Media and the Archdiocese of Baltimore.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following ( other duties may be assigned):
MAJOR TASKS:
- Use still photography and video to document breaking and major church events, feature subjects, human interest, parish life, sports, etc.
- Create multi-media packages for Catholic Review Media and the Archdiocese of Baltimore.
- Generate ideas and contribute to weekly editorial meeting.
- Write accurate caption information that conforms to Associated Press and Catholic News Service style.
- Post photos, including those published in print and unpublished, in electronic formats, such as the newspaper’s photo sale site, slide shows, a staff photographer blog and other formats.
- Work nights and weekends.
SECONDARY TASKS:
- Contact sources to coordinate assignments.
- Develop creative rapport with fellow members of editorial staff and sources.
- Oversee editing of all video for display on CatholicReview.org.
- Digitally archive all photo shoots for easy access by fellow members of editorial and graphics staffs.
- Write a photo blog
- Write brief introductions to slide shows on web and photo spreads in print.
OCCASIONAL DUTIES:
- Share expertise and equipment with fellow members of editorial staff.
- Respond to the moment and season, to produce pertinent photographs and video of human interest, landscapes and weather.
- Manage internal and external requests for archival photos.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
A bachelor’s degree, three years’ experience as a news photographer and knowledge of the Catholic Church and its liturgy preferred. Personal transportation required.
PHYSICAL SKILLS
Must possess ability to:
- Maneuver one’s way around an event or subject in search of optimum angles and perspectives, without being intrusive to the event.
- Transport and use various equipment such as telephoto lenses, tripods and stepladders.
- Operate a computer.

Must possess ability to:
