Photo Manager / Editor


Job Summary / Basic Function:

Manage and coordinate all photo assignment requests by university staff and faculty, outside vendors, designers and publications; and transmit all images with all vital information in an organized and timely manner.
Color correct all images going to designers or outside vendors.
Generate captivating images and video without the guidance of other university staff.
Capture and edit video that enhances the University's marketing messaging.
Find subjects/content that enhances the mission of the university.
Archive and manage images and video with proper identifications and file naming along with suitable keywords
Manage the workflow of all freelance photographers, coordinate their assignments with the subjects while maintaining deadlines.
Transmit images and video to clients on and off campus
Work with designers at the university's marketing firm to ensure that all artwork is current and fits the needs of each project.
Produce a variety of multimedia presentations for the President and other staff members for use at a variety of venues.
Make internal contacts with staff and faculty in order to locate subjects to be photographed for marketing materials and publications.
Assist in meeting photography needs related to the University's print publications such as the Cal U Review and elements of the University's printed recruitment mail stream.
Develop and maintain an online photo and video archive available to the University community.
Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Required Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

Successful applicant will have the skills, knowledge and abilities to complete the essential job functions described in the job summary. Additionally, the successful applicant will: be self motivated, highly organized, possess excellent communication skills, work as a member of the university marketing team, be able to complete projects with minimal supervision and by set deadlines, and complete a successful interview.
Should be proficient in the following: Adobe Creative Suite, Aperture or Lightroom, Quark Xpress and a working knowledge of Final Cut Pro as well as Mac OSX operating system.
Experience working with designers and generating captivating story ideas is preferred.
Must be able to lift 50 lbs (Camera Equipment).

Minimum of Education / Training:

A minimum of a bachelor's degree in visual communications or related field plus five years of photojournalism experience (photo editor preferred) or an equivalent amount of training and experience as a photographer / photo editor is required.
- Professional photography portfolio that demonstrates strong knowledge of digital photography and video, including: lighting, composition, color quality and aesthetics must be submitted with the application.
- Professional experience in a commercial photography studio, experiencing managing a team/function and technical experience with still photography and video platforms is required.
- Expert-level proficiency with the industry-standard software tools; further proficiency with color management policies is required.
- Expert-level proficiency with DSLR functionality (both still and video) as well as all standard studio lighting techniques and traditional grip practice is required.
- Proficient working knowledge of still and moving imaging software for Mac and PC platforms and expert knowledge of Photoshop, Premiere, Final Cut Pro, Illustrator are required.
