Photo Art Director for Beall’s Department Stores

FUNCTION OF THE JOB

The ideal candidate should have a passion for photography, understand current style trends, love working in a team environment, have the ability to lead the creative process and understand the Florida lifestyle.

INTERACTION:

  • Reports to Studio manager.
  • Extensive interaction with Creative Department.
  • Extensive interaction with freelance designers, photographers, stylists.
  • Interaction with E-commerce staff, Advertising staff, Marketing staff, and Photo Studio staff.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES (Essential Functions):

  • Develop creative concepts for seasonal themes and campaigns with team.
  • Execute and proof creative materials on budget and on time.
  • Art direct fashion / product photography per Bealls’ style guidelines.
  • Attend weekly photo meetings to discuss merchant needs and design direction.
  • Schedule all studio photography including fashion & product .
  • Hire freelance stylists based on established photo budget.
  • Give clear styling direction to free-lancers.
  • Manage and update photography style guidelines.
  • Drop in selections to layouts and post for review as needed.
  • Participate in monthly photo review with the Creative Manager & Sr. Creative Director.
  • Participate in seasonal creative conception & execution.
  • Test seasonal colors each quarter for fashion and product sets.
  • Manage, organize and source props.
  • Scout & procure locations for seasonal lifestyle photography.
  • Travel to location shoots within the state of Florida.
  • Manage multiple studio sets.
  • Meet all photo deadlines.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Supervise, hire, train, develop, motivate and coach staff to achieve results. Will also be responsible for directing freelance photographers, stylist and Hair and Makeup artists.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Must have adequate vision, speech, hearing and physical ability to perform essential job functions, with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Must have ability to lift 50 pounds
  • Full body rotation and mobility
  • Must be able to see and distinguish color
  • Fluent in English
  • Must possess a valid Florida driver’s license
  • Must be able to spend 12 months out of the year working outdoors in the Florida climate

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BA or BS in photography, graphic design or advertising OR equivalent studio experience
  • 5 years minimum art directing retail / catalog photography on and off figure
  • Strong leadership abilities in a fast-paced work environment
  • Project management experience
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite a plus
  • Knowledge of Capture One a plus
