Gilbert, Arizona has an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated professional to fill the position of Digital Journalist within the Office of Communications.

The individual selected will report directly to the Chief Digital Officer and will be using an array of digital and multimedia tools, including various cameras and drones to produce, shoot and edit both short and long-form news stories, promotional video pieces and documentary-style productions on deadline. They will also assist with the development of new digital communications initiatives. Additionally, this individual will be tasked with the creation of the annual Mayor’s Digital State of the Town as well as producing news stories, videos and podcasts on a daily or weekly basis. Other duties will include research, scripting and writing, live video, photography and may also include providing audio and video support for official public meetings. This individual will assist with various marketing and outreach programs and will promote their own work on various platforms including through the use of e-blasts, on the website and on multiple social media channels.
Starting salary will be between the beginning $57,448.27 and job rate $74,682.75 of the posted salary range, DOQ.

Ideal candidates for this opening will have a strong passion for video, technology, digital communications and storytelling, the desire to work with a high-performing team; and will derive energy and motivation from sharing their content and stories with others. They will possess excellent communication skills, both oral and written, and will use them to build strong relationships within the organization and with partners. They will be regarded as a team player and collaborator and oriented toward identifying options and practical solutions for their customers, both internal and external. They must also be able to edit on Adobe Premiere and knowledgeable about new technologies that may include 360-degree video, live video and drone operation. They will also be required to provide voiceovers and host various live or produced videos.
Applicants must possess strong written communications skills with the ability to tell stories and write content that resonates with multiple audiences. They should have strong decision making skills and their work style will be independent; characterized by turning concepts and general direction into creative, successful projects and programs with little direct supervision.
Requirements include a Bachelor’s degree in film, journalism, communications or a related field, and a minimum of three years of experience in news or video production. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
