The University of Texas at Austin Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center is seeking a new editor and content producer to coordinate the center's digital and print publications (including its quarterly member magazine), strategize across print and digital platforms, and produce and edit copy to support those platforms. This job is perfect for someone who wants to advance the mission of a nationally-renowned botanic garden dedicated to native plant conservation, education and landscape restoration. We are looking for a creative, spirited, thoughtful, innovative person for our communications team who is ready to change the world. Our goal is to create beautiful, informative content that inspires and instructs, as well as generates revenue for the center through membership, donations and garden admissions.
Essential Functions
Serves as managing editor of quarterly member magazine, Wildflower, including: Manages and solicits from freelance writers, photographers and artists; Works collaboratively with editor-in-chief and art director/designer; Writes articles; Manages intern team (photographer, videographer, writer, etc.). Manages email communications and creates content for emails to various constituencies. Produces and publishes strategic content for center web properties in line with communication priorities. Helps create video and other multimedia to support digital and print communications. Works with Communications Director, PR and Marketing Coordinator, Web Manager and Graphic designer to create center brochures, annual reports and other informational and promotional publications.

Required qualifications
Bachelor's degree in communications (e.g. journalism), landscape architecture, and/or any of the biological and environmental science fields. Seven years of professional experience in public relations, communications, or writing and editing publications. Three or more years of experience managing and producing content for a print magazine, including working with photographers, printers and designers. Three or more years of experience managing and producing content for digital channels (e.g. digital magazine, blogs, etc.). Demonstrated experience managing multiple deadlines and working with a team to bring creative projects to fruition. Experience using a content management system or blogging system, such as Wordpress. Experience creating and editing simple videos and/or using multimedia to creatively tell stories. Experience and demonstrated interest in conservation and the environment. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in any of the fields above. Additional years of experience working with print and digital publications. Knowledge of issues related to native plants, landscape design, sustainability and climate.
